Colorado became the first state in the United States where adults can buy marijuana, and the first man to make a purchase posted the honor on social media.
First legal purchase
Sean Azzariti, an Iraq war veteran, bought the first bag at an 8 a.m. press event. He suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and marijuana is one way to help alleviate his symptoms.
Azzariti’s purchase at 3D Cannabis Center was $59.74, with tax, for 3.5 grams of Bubba Kush and a bag of pot-infused truffles.
Before, Colorado has had medical marijuana laws, but PTSD was not included under state orders. Now that recreational weed can be bought and consumed by adults 21 and over, Azzariti can buy it legally.
New recreational marijuana law
Azzariti has been an activist for legalization of weed, saying marijuana helps people with PTSD.
His purchase was staged by activists as a ceremonial first buy for the media.
Media reports from Colorado showed long lines of prospective pot buyers around the 3D building, eager to join Azzariti and benefit from the new recreational marijuana law.
