Introducing Google’s Responsive Design Ad Units

Google has announced a responsive design AdSense intended to run on websites that adapt automatically to different screen sizes. It’s the same technique Verizon and AT&T use when repurposing ads from videos on mobile phones.

The Google unit relies on a new AdSense asynchronous ad code. Each URL serves the same HTML to all devices using CSS to change the way the web pages render on devices.

It allows web designers and developers to specify the size of the ad served. This makes it fit into the way a website renders a page on a particular device. This way, web designers and developers just need to make sure that the ad unit matches Google’s standard ad sizes.

Responsive Ad Design

The online marketing industry has been debating and working on moving toward responsive ad design for more than a year now. With Google’s introduction of its AdSense unit, it just goes to show how slowly some methods catch on.

Radicevic also reminded marketers that the new ad code is responsive on the initial page load only. Subsequent changes to the web design services, like screen orientation changes, won’t display a new ad. Knowing that this is an important feature for websites, Google continues to work out the bugs.
